The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is currently the sole provider offering both occupational therapy undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Hong Kong.

Undergraduate Programme

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Occupational Therapy

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Occupational Therapy offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is designed to meet world standards with emphasis on the local needs of Hong Kong . It is fully recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. Graduates of this degree program can practice as qualified occupational therapists both in Hong Kong and worldwide.

This three-year honours degree program includes both academic and clinical studies integrated throughout the three years. Students are required to undertake General Education subjects as well as English and Chinese languages. The core academic studies include human biology, clinical sciences, the theory and application of occupational therapy, research and management. Theoretical and practical application of occupational therapy to medical, community, and education settings takes place during clinical studies.

Graduates of this honours degree program are eligible to register under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance and the Occupational Therapists (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Regulations to work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, special schools, and other social and health services.

BSc (Hons) graduates from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University are qualified to continue post-graduate education at various levels (e.g. Master degrees or Doctoral degree) in both local and overseas universities.

Evidence-based Practice

Throughout the years, students of the postgraduate programmes in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have written many doctoral dissertations or master's theses which provide valuable information to the knowledge base of the occupational therapy profession, and facilitate the adoption of “Evidence-based Practice” by occupational therapists in Hong Kong .
